Ascent Aspirations Publishing
The Premier Print Edition of Ascent Contest
The publication will be a perfect-bound 96-page book with a glossy art designed cover. Since Ascent is a non-profit publication, offering the print edition as a contest will provide the funding for the book. This contest will run for three quarters of the year and the print edition will appear in the fourth quarter of 2005. At the same time Ascent will continue to publish the electronic editions each quarter separate from the annual print edition.
The contest is open to everyone.
If you have already contributed to Ascent for the February Issue and would like to have your poetry considered for the print edition re-submit using the contest format and let us know that you have also submitted for the February Issue.
First Prize - $100 (CND) & 2 free anthologies
Second Prize - $75 (CND) & 2 free anthologies
Third Prize - $50 (CND) & 2 free anthologies
Fourth Prize - $25 (CND) & 2 free anthologies
Plus 5 - $10 (CND) honourable mention awards with 2 free anthologies
Plus all additional poets in the collection will receive one free copy of the anthology.
The goal is for the contest to generate the costs for publishing the anthology. If the entry fees and sales of the anthology exceed the costs, then the additional money will be used to fund future print editions of Ascent with prize money being more widely distributed among all the poets who appear in the anthology.
Rules & Guidelines:
At this time the print edition will contain only poetry. Short stories or essays will not appear in the first print edition. Ultimately it is planned that Ascent will produce two print anthologies, one for poetry and one for short fiction.
Poems must be unpublished and not sent elsewhere. Submit your poem or poems with a brief bio by e-mail only to ascentaspirations@shaw.ca. In the subject heading say Ascent Print Contest.
